Tourist Day
11/02/08 12:39 PM
My camera broke the other day and I lost about 100 photos I had taken, so I went out and bought a new one. This sucker is nice. The pictures look so good that I don’t have to spend hours in Photoshop fixing the colors. What a relief.
Kellen and I got up reasonably early, went to the waterfront, and got on an hour-long boat ride for Elephanta Island. There are no elephants there. The Island was named by the Portuguese for a giant elephant statue they found there. They promptly stole it (of course), but it sank into the sea... A couple hundred years later, the brits dredged it up and gave it to the city.

There Are monkeys there. Fortunately, everyone here is a slob and they throw their trash down the hill, so the monkeys have all kinds of unhealthy crap to eat:

The caves are pretty cool. they were carved out of the mountain sometime in the 7th century. Lots of juicy Hindu goodness:

One needs to run the gauntlet of hundreds of aggressive vendors to get in and out of the ruins:

But finally, you can escape to the beach and the dock:

It was awful nice to get out of the city. Tomorrow is our last work day here, on Tuesday we fly to Chennai.
